Biographie

Myriam Dao vit et travaille à Paris. Elle obtient une bourse de la Villa Médicis Hors les Murs pour réaliser son premier projet photographique à la verticale des rizières, «Élévation» . Elle enseigne les arts visuels à Paris depuis 2009. Elle joue avec les archétypes, les universaux à la base des mythes et de la pensée humaine. Elle les dissèque, les confronte avec différents modèles avant de les interroger afin de fabriquer de nouvelles images.

Biography

Myriam Dao lives and works in Paris. Her first project about rice plantations, “Elevation”, received an Award from the “Villa Médicis Hors les Murs”. She has taught visual arts in Paris since 2009. She plays with archetypes, the universal elements that are at the source of human thought and from which myths are formed, dissecting them, confronting them with different schemas before questioning them in order to make new images.

The lamp

Returning to the room, I quickly looked around, trying to find for an object that would grab my attention. The lamp in the corner – yes, that would do. A heavy enough base, but not too bulky, a lampshade not too big. I could easily visualise myself clasping it. First of all, I would have to unplug it, quietly. I was just about to do so, when there was a knock at the door…

I enter, take a quick look across the room, then they appear, as if still here. Yesterday, a businessman, just passing through, obviously. A week ago, a woman waiting and hoping. A month ago, a couple that live far from each other, meeting at the hotel for the first time in too long. They accompany me for a few moments, I imagine their private lives, they enter into mine.
