ABSENCE
“Your body in one place and your mind in another”. This phrase sums up the feeling I had when taking the photo in this as yetunfinished room at La Belle Juliette.
Which is why it’s an self portrait.
There was also this feeling of uncertainty: a departure, an arrival? A place which fills up or is emptied of its furniture? And thus, absence.
This explains this excerpt from a letter by Chateaubriand to Juliette Récamier, after she had left for Rome:
« … rue de l’Abbaye, I will never go back there, you will no longer be there. This was your choice. Will you come back to me again? It seems you do not care! »
