Biographie

Myriam Dao vit et travaille à Paris. Elle obtient une bourse de la Villa Médicis Hors les Murs pour réaliser son premier projet photographique à la verticale des rizières, «Élévation» . Elle enseigne les arts visuels à Paris depuis 2009. Elle joue avec les archétypes, les universaux à la base des mythes et de la pensée humaine. Elle les dissèque, les confronte avec différents modèles avant de les interroger afin de fabriquer de nouvelles images.

Biography

Myriam Dao lives and works in Paris. Her first project about rice plantations, “Elevation”, received an Award from the “Villa Médicis Hors les Murs”. She has taught visual arts in Paris since 2009. She plays with archetypes, the universal elements that are at the source of human thought and from which myths are formed, dissecting them, confronting them with different schemas before questioning them in order to make new images.

The lamp

Returning to the room, I quickly looked around, trying to find for an object that would grab my attention. The lamp in the corner – yes, that would do. A heavy enough base, but not too bulky, a lampshade not too big. I could easily visualise myself clasping it. First of all, I would have to unplug it, quietly. I was just about to do so, when there was a knock at the door…

I enter, take a quick look across the room, then they appear, as if still here. Yesterday, a businessman, just passing through, obviously. A week ago, a woman waiting and hoping. A month ago, a couple that live far from each other, meeting at the hotel for the first time in too long. They accompany me for a few moments, I imagine their private lives, they enter into mine.

Biographie

La passion pour la photographie m’a conduit en 1997 à intégrer l’ENS Louis Lumière. J’en suis ressorti 3 ans plus tard avec le diplôme en traitement des images.

Crise des laboratoires, révolution du numérique, agences en difficultés m’ont amené à patienter 5 ans dans une agence de création multimédia, mais l’envie s’est faite trop pressante.

Je me suis donc tourné à nouveau en 2005 vers la photographie, mais cette fois en prise de vue. La photographie d’architecture s’imposera rapidement à moi et je passe mes premières années à réaliser des travaux de commandes. 7 années à confronter mon approche photographique aux exigences de la commande.

Mes principaux clients sont des architectes, la presse spécialisée et des institutionnels.

Biography

In 1997, my passion for photography led me to enrol in ENS Louis Lumière, a French university specialised in photography, cinema and sound. I graduated three years later with a degree in image processing.

I waited out the digital revolution, flagging business environment for agencies and the laboratory crisis in a company in the multimedia creation business…but soon the desire to create became overwhelming.

In 2005, I returned to photography, but this time, behind the lens. Architectural photography quickly became my principal focus and the first few years were spent doing commission work. For seven years, I learned to balance my approach to photography with the requirements of my commissions.

My main clients include architectural firms, the specialised press and institutions.

Le label Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche, à l’origine du projet artistique  » Photo d’Hôtel, Photo d’Auteur « , a créé en 2006, avec l’association Fetart, le Prix PHPA, sous la houlette de son directeur artistique Alain Bisotti. Ce Prix bénéficie du partenariat de la galerie Esther Woerdehoff qui présente chaque année la grande exposition du lauréat. 

HPRG est également partenaire du festival Circulation(s) où Alain Bisotti fait partie du jury desélection. 

Afin de pouvoir poursuivre son action dans la promotion de la photographie contemporaine, Alain Bisotti souhaitait avoir un espace d’exposition. C’est chose faite avec l’arrivée dans le label de l’Hôtel La Belle Juliette où le Salon des voyageurs est consacré exclusivement aux expositions de photographie.

La programmation est liée soit au projet PHPA, soit à ses coups de coeur.

Depuis son ouverture, La Galerie Photographique de la Belle Juliette a accueilli Patrick Tourneboeuf, Guillaume Amat, Elene Usdin, Clément Béraud, Sabrina Biancuzzi, Tilby Vattard, Steve McCurry, Thibault de Puyfontaine, Alain Cornu, Graziella Antonioni et cinq photographes de l’agence Magnum Photo…

La programmation 2013 continuera avec les expositions de Dominique Jumelle, Charlotte Tanguy (Prix PHPA 2012), Candice Milon, la Carte Blanche PHPA 2013 dont le nom du photographe sera dévoilé très prochainement.

Chaque année, une première exposition est offerte à un jeune photographe sélectionné par Alain Bisotti lors des diverses lectures de portfolio. En 2013, Clément Béraud a été le premier jeune photographe à bénéficier de cette initiative. En 2014, Mathias Delattre présentera pour la première fois ses oeuvres à un public. 

La galerie photographique est partenaire avec Central Dupon. Le laboratoire photographique Parisien produira chaque année 3 expositions ( 1re exposition, exposition du gagnant PHPA, Carte Blanche à Central Dupon). Label Image est partenaire pour toutes les autres expositions qui ont lieu à la galerie ainsi que pour l’exposition annuelle PHPA.

BIOGRAPHIE

Jean-Baptiste Courtier est né le 17 juin 1983, il vit et travaille à Paris.

C’est en travaillant pour différentes agences de mannequins que nait sa passion pour la photographie.

Sa rencontre avec Patrick Messina sera déterminante, il lui apprendra les maniements de la chambre 4×5 et lui prodiguera nombreux conseils.

Il trouve dès lors rapidement du travail pour la presse et la publicité,

un moyen pour lui de continuer ses travaux personnels.

Jean-Baptiste travaille actuellement sur sa prochaine série qui sortira la natation synchronisée des bassins traditionnels.

Récompensé aux FotoWeek DC, Jean-Baptiste exposera au cours du mois de novembre au Warner Theater de Washington.

Energy & Serenity

 In the last few years, the hotel had become the only place where we would stop and meet up, finally. Equidistant for both of us, like a line drawn freehand on a map, we lived in one room. Between Rome and Stockholm, we would sleep in London. Between Berlin and Gothenburg, we would choose Oslo. For a long time already, we had kept an image of each of our stays, like the souvenir of a shared dream, an ingenious attempt to not waste time that always seemed to go too fast. Above the tumult and clamour of this big city, from Gobelins to Saint-Germain, rue du Cherche-Midi, I would go to you, you were there. You would come to me. I remained in a dizzy state of time suspended, travelling, and yet just a few streets from my apartment, with him.

Despite the glacial distance that had separated me from this man of dreams, there was no need to pretend to be something here, only to feel the attraction impossible to describe. In this serenely-coloured room on the the third floor, feelings had been confusingly stirred up.

Maia Flore est née en 1988.

Elle entre à l’Agence Vu en 2010 et présente sa première série Sleep Elevations au festival Circulation(s) de la Jeune Photographie Européenne à Paris en 2011 ou encore dans le cadre des Rencontres d’Arles à la galerie du Magasin de Jouets. Elle aime rechercher les coïncidences entre notre monde et celui de notre imagination,un univers créé de toutes pièces et dans lequel elle s’amuse à mettre en scène ses photographies.

She became a member of the Vu Agency in 2010, and presented her series Sleep Elevations at the Circulation(s) Festival of Young Photography in Paris in 2011, as well as exposing at the Magasin de Jouets gallery during the Arles photo festival the same year. She likes to look for coincidence between our world and the world of our imagination, a universe created from scratch, and in which she enjoys staging her photos.
